History of Grupo Bakkan

Grupo Bakkan was established in 2000. The group was conceived after a long period of doing live performances in the San Francisco Bay Area as a local band called Toni Nieto y Su Orquesta. Grupo Bakkan is a generation of fresh, creative and original sounds with a new salsa rhythm, BAKKANA!”

Bakkan’s members are Toni Nieto, Nelson, Frankie and Jorge.  The band is composed of musicians from all over the world including Peru, Cuba, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Colombia, USA and Puerto Rico all residing in San Francisco Bay Area.

BAKKAN was chosen as the name of the band after several trips to Cali, Colombia; where people use this word very often to describe a good mood (to feel good) or basically when is time to party. The idea in forming the group was to give salsa music a new flavor with sounds from the Caribbean, and Latin America. The hard work and effort paid off and “Grupo Bakkan” was born.

In 2001 the first CD was produced in Cali, Colombia (Then released in 2002 under the Salvavision Record Label) with the help of internationally recognized musicians. Before the first production, “A Escondidas” hit the market, Grupo Bakkan’s popularity was already growing in places such as Italy, Germany and Miami to name a few. This first production has 10 original tracks and has been in the market since 2002.

After several years of promoting the first CD and working on new recordings, Grupo Bakkan returns with the single “Me Quieres Olvidar.” Grupo Bakkan is now re-energized and focused on bringing their music to a broader audience.

The new single “Lo Dejaria Todo” original of Chayanne is taking over Puerto Rico, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Mexico and other Latin American countries.  The European community is definitely supporting this new sing and in the United States; New York, Miami, Tennessee, Texas, California to name a few are dancing to Grupo Bakkan.

Grupo Bakkan is more than just a band…we invite you to join the Bakkan experience!
